The Engineer position will be responsible for a variety of engineering and technical tasks primarily supporting Aurora Water's Development Review and Planning Services Project Teams.  These responsibilities generally include: reviews residential, commercial and public works project plans, reports and other development related documents for compliance with Aurora Water Standards.  Position also will provide water and wastewater modeling services utilizing the existing InfoWater and InfoSewer modeling software.    

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, reviews subdivision construction plans, preliminary and final plats, commercial building plans, master utility studies, and other development related documents. 
  • Meets with developers, private engineers, City engineers and other staff to discuss review comments, design standard requirements and other applicable standards. 
  • Participates in development issue resolution through support of field inspection staff and other City staff as necessary. 
  • Attends pre-application meetings for proposed community developments and civil drawing pre-submittal meetings as a representative of Aurora Water to ensure compliance with Aurora Water Standards and Specifications. 
  • Conduct water and wastewater operational modeling services and report findings for Aurora Water and other City staff as necessary.  

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The hiring department may include job related experience, training, education or license and certification preferences at the time of recruitment. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:  Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

Experience:  3 plus years of professional level engineering services, preferably in projects related to water, sewer, and storm drain projects.  Experience with computer programming and reporting is considered a plus.

Knowledge:  General proficiency in MS Office products.  Knowledge of SharePoint and/or SQL reporting is considered a plus.

Abilities:  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and Aurora Water contractors; multi-task; manage projects;  communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; analyze and compile technical information and reports; evaluate and interpret a variety of asset data.

Skills:  Strong analytical and interpersonal skills. 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:  EIT preferred.  Colorado driver's license with a good driving history. Future career progression requires P.E. certification.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:  Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; vision sufficient to read computer screens, printouts, and related documents; dexterity to operate a computer system and other related equipment; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens; endurance sufficient to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time.

Work Environment:  Works in a clean, comfortable environment.  The work environment will occasionally include field visits to Aurora Water facilities (treatment facilities, pump stations, tanks, reservoirs, etc.)
