JOB DUTIES: Materials Engineer – Technical Specialist with Dana Automotive Systems Group, LLC in Maumee, OH will conduct material and process related projects. Address material and process related concerns from manufacturing, suppliers, and customers. Provide support for material and process related requests from engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers. Create and update material, heat treat, and process specifications. Perform material testing and failure analysis of components submitted to the Metallurgical Laboratory. Review of engineering sample materials per specifications. Conduct failure analysis of engineering and vehicle test components. Perform sample preparation and metallographic examination, hardness testing, chemical analysis, photo documentation, non-destructive evaluation, as well as mechanical and performance testing. Coordinate outsourced testing as needed. Interpret test results, write reports, and effectively communicate with other engineers. Occasional work with non-ferrous metals and other materials such as plastics, lubricants, elastomers, adhesives, and coatings. Keep current with material and process related technology as it relates to Dana products. Will travel internationally to meet with suppliers and customers for technical support.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree, or higher, or foreign equivalent, in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field, and at least 15 years of experience in the job offered or at least 15 years of experience in materials engineering, research, and manufacturing. Stated experience must include 15 years of experience in each of the following: failure analysis, including using scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectrometer, and x-ray diffraction; and hardness testing, tension and compression testing, fatigue testing, corrosion testing, chemical analysis, and microscopic evaluation techniques. Stated experience must include 10 years of experience in each of the following: reading design prints; and utilizing Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite of products. Must be willing to travel internationally up to 10% of time.
