Job Description

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Trades Supervisor performs electrical, construction and general maintenance work on Tribal facilities, buildings, and equipment in accordance with appliance codes and management directives.

Supervision Exercised

Reports to the Trades Supervisor.

May lead the work of assigned personnel.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

-Under general supervision, performs general electrical preventive maintenance and repair work, other duties may include: plumbing, HVAC, plastering, painting, glazier, roofing and sheetrock work, basic carpentry, cement finishing.
-Complies with Public Works Department standard operating procedures.
-Inspects buildings and maintains written documentation on facilities and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes, damage, vandalism and repairs made on electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
-Reports repair requirements to Trades Supervisor and plans repairs.
-Estimates materials purchases for electrical repairs.
-Installs motors and maintains heating/cooling units, low voltage controls and wiring.
-Visually inspects building to include; mechanical and electrical room, life safety issues, and perform repair work as needed.
-Interprets blueprints; works from sketches or verbal instructions to determine locations of equipment and conformance to electrical, building and safety codes.
-Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, repairs, and adjusts electrical fixtures, apparatus, equipment, wiring and new service to include panels, breakers and circuits.
-Inspects electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
-Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using testing equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
-Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as multi meters to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
-Troubleshoots and repairs electric controls, motor control panels and programmable logic controls.
-Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
-Maintains an adequate inventory of electrical repair supplies and notifies supervisor of equipment and supplies needed. Must pick-up supplies when needed and approved.
-Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

-Uses hand and power tools, assists in erecting new and/or remodeling existing buildings.
-Operates and performs minor maintenance on heavy equipment owned by the Pueblo of Sandia.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Ability to work in a safe manner following established safety regulations.
-Ability to operate equipment used in construction projects.
-Ability to make repairs to electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
-Ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory.
-Ability to lead the work of assigned personnel.
-Ability to perform construction activities using hand and power tools.
-Knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements on electrical, heating, cooling and related building mechanical systems.
-Knowledge of basic carpentry.
-Some knowledge of compounds and potential effects when mixed or used.
-Ability to perform duties considering the full use of Personal Protective Equipment without restrictions.
-Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
-Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.
-Availability 24 hours a day.
