We are looking for engineers that come from a strong design and surfacing background. We have always targeted exciting niche vehicles, and have also started implementing additional cutting edge manufacturing technologies to further facilitate the rapid creation of new designs. A key component of supporting this new capability is being able to quickly and effectively produce high quality product surfacing, and then to generate the design of the physical parts associated with those designs.
The right candidate for this position would be capable of creating high level, Class-A surface models. They would become proficient in the strengths and design rules of various direct digital manufacturing processes, and then contribute to the rapid creation of designs to support these methods. Iteration of design, and additional variants are key to the value of these new processes. This position represents an excellent opportunity to pursue personal growth in the area of complex part design, as well as familiarity in some of the newest methods of component production.
Help support rapid vehicular development programs, with high quality surface generation.
Utilize 3D CAD platforms such as Alias and NX to create vehicle designs and component designs that include complex surfacing elements.
Work with a number of processes from large scale 3d printing to advanced subtractive, and continue to iterate those processes to make them more functional for vehicular design.
Collaborate with the Design Department to interpret 2D conceptual material into conceptual 3D forms, and then into producible 3D component designs.
Providing Engineering expertise to new program launches (Requirements vs. Capability assessments, supplier development).
Assist in the qualification of new suppliers (site visits and audits).
BSEE or BSME degree with 3-8 years’ experience; or BS Technical degree with 4-8 years’ experience
Experience and Skill Requirements
- Analytical problem solving techniques using quality tools, team building, and decision making skills
- Strong understanding of complex surfacing in CAD, Class A surfacing experience
- Proportional curves, theoretical intersections, flow lines, tangent lines, reflect analysis tools, creating history based templates and solid modeling functionality
- Working knowledge of milling processes for developing clay, foam, plastic and SLA models for research properties, show vehicles and design decision meetings
- Experience dealing with customers
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
- Strong knowledge of CAD such as Alias, Solid Edge, NX, Catia
- Experience analyzing data, running predictive simulations and performing kinematic studies
